A Reminder

The morning has come around again,

condensation on my window pane.

Daylight’s weak rays enter my room

and finds a space amongst the gloom.

I rise slowly from my bed

dress myself then scratch my head.

A feeling of loneliness which cannot be hid

an emptiness inside that I can’t get rid.

The long days only serve as a reminder

of a time when life was so much kinder.
