Ticking Clock

The loud ticking clock

on the wall,

deadlines to be met

by us all.

Never mind if you have

somewhere to go,

it’s your own fault

for working slow.

What thanks you get

once the job is done

will not be worth

missing your children.

they have grown up

without a father

all in the name

of the mighty dollar.

  1. Why without a father? Most women work as well…

    1. Ha ha very true, but I find it hard to write from a woman’s perspective.

      1. You don’t need to. Just acknowledge that both parents are in the workforce, most children come from broken homes and more often it is women working and raising the children alone. Perspective.

      2. I don’t mean to come off as harsh, it’s just those final two lines seemed to imply that children grow up without fathers due to work. The same can be said of mothers too. ☺
