Looking Out the Door

Meandering through life

without any ambition,

hoping nothing arises to put you

in an awkward position.

You can’t bear to think

of being in the spotlight,

the thought of people scrutinizing you

fills you with fright.

You were happy to remain

in the shadows,

out of sight and out of mind

you were never one to impose.

As you have gotten older

the more insecure you have become,

looking back on your life

and all the things you haven’t done.

A feeling of regret

that wasn’t there before

now seems to get stronger

every day you look out your door.

  1. Nicely done and damn, that’s a good one, again.
