I met your mother
the other day,
she looked at me in the
most unflattering way.
I knew she was thanking God
that you had found someone new,
she never did think
I was good enough for you.
My future plans were not
what she wanted for her little girl,
so she was thrilled when a rich boy
took you out for a twirl.
It didn’t matter that you
broke my heart in two
as I watched you
slip away out of view.
I was disposable and
it didn’t cost you a thought
to leave me alone after
the devastation that you brought.
But now after
a little reflection,
I realise I was the one who
benefitted from her intervention,
for I believe you have
turned into your mother
and I know I wouldn’t have been
able to cope with another.

Beautiful poem and touchy
