We used to go to the
Market Square after school
to lean against a wall
and try and act cool.
Girls on their way home
would roll their eyes
already seeing through
our silly disguise.
Rain or shine we would
stand on the corner
and as they passed by,
we would just murmur.
Our faces red in case
one would dare speak
and if she did our
knees would get weak.
Breaking voices and
faces full of spots
seeing the girl we liked
left our stomachs in knots.
Looking in shop windows
to check our reflections
then covertly fixing our hair
after a close inspection.
Come five o’clock it was
time to part ways
and head home alone
to all our dismay.

How sweet:)
