The sun rises as night turns into day,
the morning dew glistens
on the freshly dug clay
where your body was placed yesterday
in a wooden box
for you to eternally to lay.
Tears were shed and alcohol drank
stories were told
but now my mind is blank.
All I can think of is
I will never see you again and the pain
and sorrow that it contains.
Kneeling beside this mound of earth
that is your grave
I say a prayer for your soul
in the hope it will be saved.
But at this moment I find it hard to believe
that anyone can hear me
and that wooden box will be opened
to let your spirit fly free.

Very evocative
