A Brother

I have a brother whom

I have never met

but his existence is something

I can never forget.

He died as a baby

before I was born,

from our parents side

he was cruelly torn.

I have one blurred

photograph of him

sitting on a beach,

smiling at the camera,

I want to hold him but

he is forever out of reach.

I would visit his grave

where he lay alone for years

until our parents joined him,

now when I visit

I can’t help but shed tears,

tears of happiness that

they are reunited

and tears of sadness

for a love unrequited.
