The Bottom

I had to sink to the bottom

to find out who I was,

I was living too fast

I had to take time to pause.

My life had become a fight

my breath was heavy

and my chest was tight.

When I hit the bottom

I was all on my own

I had time to think about

all the destruction I’d sown.

The hurt I had inflicted

on the ones who cared,

they had opened their hearts and

left their souls bared.

when I realised and saw

the damage I had done,

I wondered had I lost

a life I could have won.
