For the first time in years
I saw your face today,
standing on the pavement
you happened to look my way.
For a second I thought
you might recognise me
but you turned your head
and I decided to leave you be.
It has been decades
since I last spoke to you,
yet the memory is strong
even after you moved
onto to pastures new.
On occasions I find myself
wondering was I to blame,
did I make plans for us
that you found too tame.
You said you couldn’t
wait to experience life
and you weren’t going to
stick around and
become a nobody’s wife.
