The Claim

Looking back on the

letters that you wrote

brings a tear to my eye

and a lump to my throat.

Innocent times when the

world was black and white

and all our futures

looked so bright.

But life has a way of

stifling your expectations

making sure you won’t

rise above your aspirations.

Our dreams were destined

to be unfulfilled

like the life we thought

that we could build.

Memories of our time

are all that remain

after reality came calling

to make its claim.
