A Confident Stride

I like to sit and watch

people pass by

then I put them into

categories to classify.

The happy ones walk

with a confident stride,

heads held high with

nothing to hide.

The sad ones meander

without purpose,

their eyes fixed firmly on

the pavements surface.

The younger generation are

glued to their screen

oblivious to their surroundings

while living in a dream.

Fitness fanatics dressed

in fluorescent lycra

are on their bikes ready

for a ten-mile cycle.

I order a second coffee

and take it all in,

sitting back and waiting

for it all to begin again.
