Red Tape

All of my cards

are maxed out,

just being

refused at the

supermarket checkout.

Cash flow has turned

to a trickle

and not for the

first time I find

myself in a pickle.

Fed up of trying to

look on the bright side

as clouds of darkness

build up on the inside.

Ashamed to ask

any one for a hand,

I feel like I am

drowning in quicksand.

The harder I try

to escape the more

I am suffocated

by red tape.

Where once I was

enthusiastic and alive

I am now apathetic

and without drive.

I don’t know what’s

going to happen next

when I open my door

to the bouncing cheques.
