The battery
on my laptop has died,
maybe it’s telling me
to rest my eyes.
It has passed two a.m.
and I really
should go to bed,
but there’s still so much
I haven’t read.
I plug the charger
into the socket on the wall
and go out
to the kitchen
to listen for the kettles call.
A mug of strong hot coffee
will awaken my senses,
but in the morning
I will suffer the consequences.
