Scorched

After the fire
the house is but a shell

but while it burned
it resembled hell.

Anything left
was scorched beyond repair

nothing remained
to every ones despair.

A lifetime’s possessions
gone up in smoke

now just a pile of ash
left there to poke.

The photographs
that had hung on the wall,

an antique clock
that stood proud in the hall.

Memories of
a faraway time

now just left
covered in slime.

All gone and never
to be replaced,

a home that has,
been laid to waste.
