Choices

Little copper in the dust

withering at last
many pockets have you seen
and many hands from pawn to queen

You were never free to roam
yet traveled round the world alone
with changing coins and papermates
a single value was your fate

You are a true born socialist
indifferent to what you pay for
used by crooks and royalists
and served them without rigour

Places you saw plentiful
but never had some choices
unlike the birds in general
left to their own devices

  1. Copper is the metal associated with the planet Venus. It has metaphysical significance. So you many be using it as a symbol for “pennies” here, copper (depending on where you are from) can also mean a cop (police officer), thoughts/ideas, or the evening and morning star. 😎

    1. Copper is the slang word for penny which was used in England. But I am aware of the other meanings and wanted to keep it like that. Thank you for reading and commenting. I may be wrong with done expressions as English is not my mother toung.😉

      1. I really liked that it fit any of the symbolic associations. That’s why I wrote my comment. Because I’m annoying and point out the obvious. I’m actually jealous that you (well, anyone who does this) can write in another language. I’ve only got English and just suck at other languages.

      2. Thank you very much, that’s very kind. I really appreciate every kind of criticism. I can only see where I am and grow if someone tells me where I am wrong. Have a nice day.
