“Well thank you Captain Obvious!”
Is what I can hear a lot of you saying.
It is an obvious statement, but one I hadn’t really paid a lot of attention to until I read Gary John Bishop’s fantastic book “Unfuck Yourself” a few months ago. There are so many excellent points in there, that I implore you to read it for yourself, if you haven’t already. However, this is a big one. Extremely profound.
Its simple. Obvious. Empowering.
It helps to put things in perspective. Each and every one of us only get a limited run here on Earth, so why the hell aren’t we doing the absolute best we can within our means to make this life not only a good one, but a great one? Why are we wasting time, getting complacent, giving up on dreams and settling for the mediocre and mundane when we have the inherent capability to do and be so much more? To be sure, not everyone will end up a millionaire, but surely we can do better?? If you’re already out there killing it, and living your best life, thats AWESOME! I am incredibly proud of you, and couldn’t be happier for you. If you’re not though…why? Your dreams and goals may be simple…a better job, to be in better shape, to finally finish that passion project… If you’re not doing these things, there really is no time like the present!
The other empowering thing about this statement is that if you, like myself ever get held back by fear or insecurity…guess what? Thats right. YOU WILL DIE. That trivial embarrassing thing that you’ve been brooding over all day? In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter. In all likelihood, none of these little things will add up to much cosmic importance, so why are you giving it so much time and attention? LET IT GO, and start LIVING YOUR LIFE.
Sometimes, it takes boldness to get our attention, and steer us back on the right path. I’m grateful for this, and you should be too. So get out there. Work hard. Play hard. Get it done, but don’t take it all too seriously. After all, no one gets out alive. 😉
