cherish or perish…

Every time I visited
my parents
we had a
traditional ritual
we gather
as a family
and
flip one by one
with memories

sometimes we play
open in random
or choose blind
pick on one
and share
what it meant

there were memories
of joy and sorrow
young and old
and
life and death

the best memory
I remember
when I asked my dad
why am I missing
and
mom was all smiles
shy and pink

fortunate I am
to have treasured
these vivid memories
I had no words
when my children
asked me for their
childhood memoirs
a few years ago

unlike my parents
I have no chronicles
of my
children’s early nuances
and
metamorphosis stage
living in a world
of instant changes
and updated versions
I shamelessly
take pride
to have
my children’s musings
snapped on a phone
taking birth instantly
and
vanishing to save space

I am in tears
by the fact
that
cherished memoirs
will remain forever
or perish
with
forgotten passwords
or on
obsolete hard drives
making them
inaccessible
for the future
generations
to see

are we breeding a
generation
lost
in the technology
or
creating a history
to preserve
the
gift of the past
of
fading memories…

  3. I have often pondered over this. As we are advancing technically, we are losing ways to preserve memories
